2016 Art Charm Swap and Beads of Courage Benefit Auction Sign-Ups

Those of you who have been around a few years probably know I have hosted an annual themed charm swap and benefit auction for Beads of Courage for four or so years. I had to skip 2015 because I went back to college to finish a degree, which still isn't finished.

Well, now it is 2016, classes are over for the semester, and I have decided to host the charm swap one last time. At least, this will be the last time until I've completed my education. Between my education, my husband going back for a Master's in Public Health, my son starting university (overseas) in September, and my daughter attending a very intense college prep high school, there is just too much life going on to continue this tradition. However, back in the fall of 2014, I promised a charm swap with a fairy tale theme. So now that homework is out of the picture until the end of August, I'm ready to go.

I know everyone is excited, but PLEASE READ EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE OF THIS POST! There is LOTS of info and it is VERY IMPORTANT you understand what you are signing up for. I prefer to not have to chase people down or answer questions that are covered here. Of course I am available to answer questions, but after doing this a few times, most questions are covered here and in the documents on the Facebook group, which you can join once you sign up.

Here we go! Are you ready?

-To participate in the charm swap, you must be willing to make 10 charms +1 (total of 11 charms). You will receive 10 random charms in return.

-The extra charm (the +1) will be auctioned off to benefit Beads of Courage. The last swap we donated over $1000 to BoC through our ebay auction, and have donated more than $3000 combined over the last four swaps.

-The theme for the 2016 charm swap is "Fairy Tales." How you make your charm fit into this theme is up to you.

Other important guidelines:

-only submit ART CHARMS. What does this mean? Well, it means you have, in some way, created the charm through some type of manipulation. Example: using hand crafted art beads, seed beading, intricate wire wrapping.  It does NOT mean you add a jump ring to a purchased charm or do a simple wire wrapped loop onto a craft store bead and call it done. If you need further clarification, you may contact me.

-only submit your BEST work, something you would be proud to show the world and your fellow artists.

-Make sure charms are non-toxic, safe to wear, able to get wet occasionally (for those who will use them for bracelets), are durable, and do not smell bad (smoke, fumes, rotting...)

-no sharp wire ends or other things which can poke and hurt people.

-no organic bits like bone, feathers, etc. UNLESS they have been sealed well or burned off (like in a kiln or torch).

-make sure you can meet deadlines before signing up! I will return charms that arrive late.

-all charms need to be in my hands by June 24th. No exceptions.  If they arrive after the due date, they will be returned unopened.

-You must have a blog.

-Charm reveal blog hop and start of charm auction is July 15th.

-Auctions for the charms will begin the same day as the blog hop.

Important!!! How to Sign Up:

-read the above guidelines first. Make sure you understand them before you read any further.

-Sign-ups close May 9th at 11:59 pm.

-Paying for the return shipment of your charms in advance secures your place in the swap. The limit is 50 slots.

-If you want to swap more than 10 charms, you will need to change the quantity to 2 when redirected to Paypal. The extra shipping will be refunded once I have all 22 charms in my possession and ship your charms to you.

-Two slots (for a total of 22 charms) is the maximum number you may sign up for.

-Below is a "Buy Now" button to pay with a credit card through Paypal. You do NOT need a Paypal account to check out. From the drop down menu immediately above the Buy Now button, select either United States ($9) or International ($15.50) based on your location

-In the "notes to seller" space, please include your name (because some Paypal accounts only have the business name and it gets confusing) AND the email where you want all correspondance about the swap to go AND your blog link. This is important as I sometimes spend a LOT of time trying to match paypal with person with email with blog.

-Once I receive payment, I will email you to confirm all info and send you a link to the private Facebook group for the swap. If you do not hear from me within 48 hours of signing up, email me at: jennifer . glassaddictions @ gmail.com (remove spaces) so I can make sure I got your payment.

-The Facebook group is pretty important as it contains all the documents with even more specifics...like size restrictions, how to ship them to me, etc. However, if you do not have a Facebook account and don't want a Facebook account, I can email you the info. You need to tell me asap so I can send you the documents in an email.

-If you want to participate in the auction, but not the swap, email me! There are several charms we auctioned off last year from people who didn't do the exchange portion of this event and raised lots of money.

*Please note....I will look at your blogs and probably your social media links when you sign up. If I see evidence of racism, bigotry, or other forms of hate, I will refund your money and open your spot to someone else. You are free to believe and say whatever you want. However, I will not allow this event to promote hate. In addition, if I see lack of evidence that you actually make any type of jewelry or beads, I reserve the right to refund your money and open the spot to someone else.*

-This swap IS open to those outside the United States.....just be prepared to send your charms EARLY!

-Select United States or International as your location:

I have a FB page and have a blog....but am not very good at posting :(. https://www.blogger.com/profile/06608050069914684356 And a Pinterest page (of course!)
I am a Lampwork bead maker (my torch is set-up in the kitchen!) -since 2010.
I'm in an ongoing metalsmithing workshop, been taking workshop sessions for 6 years.
I have taught wire working at several shops in my area and have loved wire work for many years.
A seed leader, on the board of my area guild, Great Lakes Beadworkers Guild.
The secretary on the board of my local chapter of the ISBG, GlassAct (or Southeast Michigan Greatlakes Beadmakers Guild, SMGBG)
And I dabble in Metal Clay and Polymer Clay when the opportunity arrises. Usually, when there are classes offered in either of my guilds.
I actually don't post many pictures of my creations, time to do everything escapes me (example- blog posts).
I can email pics if needed.
